POST & BEAM CABIN - GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The post & beam (timber frame) style log frame is milled from spruce. Every cabin is hand crafted and can be designed to the customer’s requirements.

The posts are either 6”x 6” for our 20’ wide cabins (upon request also 7" x 7"), or 7”x 7” for the 22’ wide cabins and joined with mortise and tenon. Exposed sides are planed.

The beams are either 6”x 8” for our 20’ wide cabins, or 7”x 9” for the 22’ wide cabins, and joined with mortise and tenon and other joints. Exposed sides are planed.

Joists, purlens and braces vary from 2+ ½”x 6” to 4”x 7”.

Cabins with a loft come with a ladder, or straight log stair case, which is according to the building code for a residence.

The frame panels, which are in between the posts and the beams, are either 2”x4” studs for the 20’ wide cabins or 2”x 6” studs for the 22’ wide cabins, with 3/8” plywood and then Tyvek on the outside. We can supply 2 x 6 studs as frame panels also for the 20' wide cabins, (if required for home dwelling building permit). We would also use the bigger post and beams, like the 22' wide cabins in the case. The inside of the panels is unfinished. The door and window openings can be cut according to the customer’s specifications.

The roof system consists of 3/8” plywood, to be installed onto the outside timber frame trusses and purlens, and our pre cut rafters, which vary from 2”x 8” to 2” x 10”. If cabin is a home dwelling with building permit, vapor barrier is required.

The assembly of the post & beam frame takes about 3 - 6 days depending on the cabin model and size.
